It was so cold I had to turn back, add a layer. Interesting ice was back on the river’s edge and the brook and looking at it made me feel less cold somehow. It was a relaxing time spent before my Wednesday morning writing group. Today we put our names into a bag and pulled someone else’s name out for a secret gifting we’ll share next week: we will bring gifts found, made or bought to honor each other’s writing life. This afternoon was my own writing time and I thought I was going to work on some revisions but I started a new poem inspired by my writing here in my blog last night about making my mother’s cheese puffs with my sister and sister-in-law and nieces to bring her presence into the holiday. I wrote well into the evening but it’s not yet a complete draft. In the morning, I hope I will wake and feel the urge to keep at it, not abandon it, to see what it will become.
