#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream
Charles River Wetlands, morning view
. . .
Praise
flow and change, night and
the pulse of day.
~ Denise Levertov, excerpt from Mass for the Day of St. Thomas Didymus
How to say thank you. It’s being lit by sun, a tree, a group of trees, by a river. On my way to the pond. With Charlie, my friend, we are jogging, there. Thanks to the pond too. And the geese that fly over it, but also leave. Feathers, floating. But the ban is lifted, the water, clearer. This too is thank you, and a dive in, stroking and stroking around the island and back of a cooler morning. A run home. The cattails pretty in the sun, fresh in the wetlands. The dogs and family go. This too, is thank you. A quiet quiet house and yard. All day. Only the birds fidget and fly and eat and flutter to and from the feeder. Thank you. And a day of poetry in the manuscript conference, the feast of of it. A day indoors, sitting, after the exercise and blue sky above the river, thank you. How my own work is received and critiqued today: THANK YOU. I feel what I have accomplished, and I am grateful to have done the work and to have it received and felt by others. And to feel their work and receive it too: Tonight, the sound of a daughter’s hearty laugh. They have returned. Thank you. I will return now, to them too. Tomorrow is more, and maybe harder. There is sleep and rest.
