#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream
Tree lichen like a flower in the rainy woods
. . . When you find your way to the circle, to the fire kept burning by the keepers of your soul, you will be welcomed.
You must clean yourself with cedar, sage, or other healing plant.
Cut the ties you have to failure and shame. . .
~ Excerpt from “For Calling the Spirit Back from Wandering the Earth on Its Human Feet,” by Joy Harjo
Walking under the soft pelt of a sprinkler. The sky has little light, muted light, and light rain to give. It’s a long walk for photo to love today. Finally, the lichen, like a flower, for New Year’s Day. Welcome 2022. You are so welcome! And a writing day, a bit of one, for me. Catching up on some writing that must be sent. And an acceptance from a journal of four of my poems from letters! Very excited about this first acceptance; excited they will be in print on their way into the book Lily Press will publish in about a year. Tonight, I am reminded of this wonderful poem by Joy Harjo. I re-read it, and realize, it’s the perfect poem to meditate to for New Year’s. So, I record it, for me––and for you. For tomorrow, this will be my meditation, and yours, if you like. The recording of the poem lasts just under five minutes. Let’s close our eyes, breathe. Breathe, breathe into 2022, and call our spirits into 2022. With immense gratitude for the spirit and artistry and wisdom of Joy Harjo. Happy New Year, dear readers!
