#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream
“Godswirl,” as named by my friend Jenny Grassl [Skunk Cabbage]
That day, the daisies sharpened their knives.
The poppies, seasonal, bloodied their toes, trying to kick down
the perennial vines, the wisterias & honeysuckles & dark ivies,
but they couldn’t stop the branching, the incessant
multiplying & dividing, any more
than they could stop grief from splintering out of love.
~ Yun Wei, Excerpt from “It Was Our First Great Sorrow”
In his nightly video address, President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine said that more than 300 people have been tortured and killed in Bucha, a suburb of the capital Kyiv, adding that the list of victims is likely to grow.
Just bells, tonight. Just bells, a five minute meditation in honor of the souls of the dead, the bodies discovered in Ukraine, the civilians who have been unjustly tortured, raped, murdered. Just bells, tonight, for the living who are weighted with grief and horror. Just bells, a wholly inadequate response to the magnitude of the evil. Some doves that live in the chest, let them fly toward Ukraine.
