A long night of rain and thunder tremble the dogs

out of sleep, we rise to walk under dry clouded sky

through meadow and woods washed fresh, finally

 this puddling awake of dry beds, of brooks

bubbling our ears - listen, this winter

will come making plenty of noise -

to quiet our steps over snow

water trickling through ice
