#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream
the faculty of making fortunate discoveries by accident
Hunters in orange vests were out by the railroad trestle. Startled, we heard a loud gunshot and quickly headed in a safer direction. After passing the swamps, and crossing a wide meadow, I saw a person in a big blue down parka and hood standing stock still in the middle of the field, alone, near the stone wall. Curious, a person just standing. In blue, which cheered me up, because it wasn't orange and I knew we were well away from hunters. The dogs and I kept walking toward the quiet person in the blue jacket who soon became a bouquet of blue helium balloons, each topped with a little icing of snow, gathered from clouds before being grounded in the middle of the meadow, deflating. The dogs, of course, were spooked. Charlie barked, Suzi sniffed. And I smiled and wondered whose wonderful event they belonged to. Then it started snowing on us too and soon our heads were iced in the meadow with the blue balloons.
