I followed the little path from my property into Rocky Narrows, turned right on the trail, and immediately met the brook, overflowing with ice melt, making this way impassable. The dogs and I tiptoed into the freezing slush, considering making it across, but the water would have been up to my ankles and it was slippery ice over the path under the water. We turned and took the other way and saw just what we needed to see this morning: a little berry head with mouse ears; a leaf like a seashell on snow; an owl watching us pass by.
Today, the melting snow and water are freezing again, and so we'll see what the brook does next.
