#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

IMG_6350.JPG

The first thing I see this morning, out the door, into the fresh cold, is the hardwood, bare branched in front of a bright sky, in front of the iced river. Tonight, gathering my day from my walk, I find this poem by Tess Gallagher, (thank you Poetry Foundation), in which the speaker goes out to cut saplings that are blocking her view of the mountain and looks up and finds a nest, and doesn't cut that tree, or any tree, because of all the unseen life in every tree. This morning on my way home from my walk I stopped, spontaneously, stood and touched the bark of a tall, tall tree with my un-mittened hand for a moment or two, because I'm traveling away from winter soon, and from these woods.

Suddenly, in every tree,

an unseen nest

where a mountain

would be.
