Little Lights
A homecoming is a walk by the river, it's afternoon –
the dogs rushing me into my snowshoes, we go out -
I greet the snow that stormed the meadow while I was
away. They race to be the first to make tracks over the
powder that fell across our field. Above, the sky is all
silver, all cloud, and beneath our feet, earth all white, so
what is so easy to see are these tiny leftovers from last
summer, no longer living, all golden light
