Baby Pumpkins

Baby Pumpkins

The moment of change is the only poem.

~ Adrienne Rich

The river is receding, just the tiniest bit. I walked early after watering the hydrangeas even thought they seemed damp. Just in case. Most of the soil and plants are fairy moist still. Hot sun. Delicious drying day today, and I walked around the overflowing trail and only waded through the brook/lake on the way back, just above my knee. The heron was on our brook this morning! Never before. The wetlands have stretched. And when I waded through the brook I ran into some quite large fish! I gasped and laughed. In the garden, after my walk, I watered a bit, and found my mini-pumpkins taking shape. I have planted mini ones and regular ones. My heirloom tomatoes are not well. But all the others are thriving. Today I had a very decent chunk of quiet time and made great progress revising the manuscript of poems from letters, finishing the revision of all the letters, and now I am working on assembling it. Really delighted to be at this stage. Then, a swim at Farm Pond; water chilled and refreshing, and the thunder clouds, purple foreboding, rolled in and there was a sprinkle, some weak thunder, a threat that passed and I rode my bike safely back home. My youngest and I are deciding to register for the local Sept. mini-triathlon. Ah, writing it makes me hesitate. I need to get in the mood to do a bit of running, and I haven’t yet felt the motivation for that. I’ll just decide to sign up and take it a day at a time. This will be her first. I’m excited to train with her for it. I met a nice woman swimming in the middle of the pond today. We stopped and chatted in the deep water and it felt very neighborly. I felt July relaxed today, and the pleasure of starting a new book: Fox and I, on audible, a memoir, by Catherine Raven.
