#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Muscari, grape hyacinth

In the partly shade near a tree grove is this wonderful wild perennial that makes a purple carpet for us every year. I believe it’s grape hyacinth. May, it comes in bloom and goes. Tomorrow I will walk Wave out to see it. This morning after some brush clearing in the grove I walked across it. tonight, all the bedroom windows open and the rain suddenly showering down. We need this rain. Nice when it comes while we sleep. A very unusually quiet house today and I got a lot of work done. A client, a newsletter out, some submissions out. And a kind of a poem draft. I don’t know about it yet. It’s quite short. Let’s see what happens. And new poem number two has a concept and some notes. Don’t know if I’ll get either of them into a state of yes. But while clearing brush I listened to a poetry podcast on Robert Lowell’s Life Studies which was very inspiring. I will listen to more poems tomorrow. Tonight I hosted my monthly open mic and featured Diane Lockward and 10 of the poets, including myself, in the recent poetry anthology, What the House Knows. It was lovely to hear the other poets read their poem, and fun to read mine, “To the new owners of 44 Brush Hill.” Fudgy is an inspiration. He’s back to his usual crowing and wandering. He’s not self-conscious about his tail feathers. Go Fudgy! You are a wonderful model of resilience!
