#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream
Martine Espada poetry reading, Lexington, MA
Up early to finalize poems for workshop, sent off. Then I drive Wave to school for his mom. We talk the whole way about Martha’s Vineyard, stories of previous summer trips, what is an island, and remembering Chappaquiddick trips. He’s impatient for our summer trip. So am I. Rainy and cool and rain for the day, on and off. I have a great workshop, great feedback on my revision and my new poem. In the afternoon Wave and I get a little bit of time by the river clearing brush. He is amazingly strong with the trimmers. Then they go off to the trampoline park, and I go to Lexington to hear the poet Martine Espada read from his new book, “Jailbreak of Sparrows.” He’s a very animated reader and his poems are very moving and timely. I run into some poets I know. Frank is away. I had my swim under the clouds this morning. The pool was pleasantly warm. All the windows open to the damp, cool air. The river is high. The grass is green. The flowers in bloom.
