Hydrangea

An unscheduled day of summer. July is the ideal month for swimming in Farm Pond. It’s glassy and warm this morning. In August, the geese will come. It’s sunny and peaceful. I’m here before the sailboats and the children in camp. After my swim I work a little bit on a new poem, and then a hair appointment. In the afternoon I start to dig in on the poem, and tonight, have a very very rough draft I worked on while Wave is napping in my bed. He is exhausted from camp. We went to the pond in the late afternoon but didn’t last long. He has had a very energetic week. This new poem is from my trip to Athol yesterday, and I have drafts of another two I’m working on as well. Tonight, toward dusk, I went out to water the vegetables and the hydrangea. I want to keep them all in bloom for a long time. Tomorrow the heat and humidity return. There is nothing sadder than a thirsty hydrangea.
