Cloudy and surprisingly warm early this morning when I got ready for the triathlon. Kept it very simple. Got on my bike and arrived at Farm Pond by 7:15 a.m. Met up with my sweet Mari, my daughter Franci’s bff, who was also doing the triathlon. When the kids were young I encouraged them to do their first kids triathlon in a neighboring town. But this is the first time we’ve done this local one together, I think. We did the swims in assigned slots according to age. My age wore an orange swim cap. The water was lovely, really. Warm, and the swim was pleasant and then I ran up to my bike and road the bike course through the back roads. This too was pleasant. It was cloudy, threatening rain, but not at all cold so I just stayed in my bathing suit the whole way. Just as well. The rain started near the end of my ride, but it didn’t pour yet. Off my bike at the high school, then on for the run, but I power walked it to avoid the run because actually I can walk as fast as I can run it. I had left a note on Perri’s door asking if she wanted to come up to the end of the tri, but I didn’t know if she would. So, imagine how delighted I was, as I finished the run/walk, to be crossing the road back to the high school and hear “Go Grammy” from a little boy’s voice. There they were, Perri and Wave, cheering me on. Wave got up and said he’d run the last leg with me. He grabbed my hand and pulled me along, and we both ran until he got tired too and I suggested we walk, and then my daughter joined us and the three of us held hands and ran through the finish line! This is me and Mari celebrating our finishes. And it was really pouring, and I road my bike the two miles home in the very wet rain. Perri and I went to a gorgeous sound bath at my friend’s house nearby and that was a pretty special way to rest after the effort.
