#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Soul collage

Collage making is such a meditative and relaxing creative practice. It has been a peaceful and restful wintry day. I woke to the boy beside me with his mother’s phone asking me to play his video game. My eyes hardly open, even after getting some coffee and climbing back into the warm bed. I am hopeless at Minecraft. I know I won’t swim today and soon enough I coax him outdoors. I want to take him to the high school track and practice some running. That’s after I make him an orange juice slushy. Four times into the blender and into his glass and back in the blender for just the right consistency. Finally, it’s good enough and he brings it to the track. Some high school boys are kicking a football and we make it once around the track. Then he wants to stop running and play games. It’s pretty cold, but I’m patient and finally we come up with some games that make him happy. Snap tag, and then wrestling on the football field, and an alligator chasing game until I am begging him to go home. He has finished his slush. I have to be creative and have a game that gets us back across the field to the car. To the car! He’s a bit grumbly going home but apologizes from the back seat. I work on a poem that I was about to give up on. Revision is being willing to see again and wait for renewed and refreshed imagination. I make some progress and know I won’t give up. But I must take a break as the pickle players have arrived. Frank calls me out: wear hat and gloves! He has bought fruit and snacks and drinks and set them up outside. I’m happy to play, but it is colder than yesterday. We have enough players to use both pickle courts. The wind gusts. But it’s truly fun. Until I’m tired enough to go in and warm the heck up. Wave is leaving late in the afternoon. I say goodbye and fall into a long rewarding nap. Today is my rest day. I wake up and manage a few dishes. Frank and I have a quiet, casual supper with a movie. The house misses him. But it’s nice to be alone with Frank and take the night off on the couch. The wind, the November wind is blowing outside. There were flurries today! And the silver sky over the wetlands. Thanksgiving is truly my favorite holiday. Tonight before bed I work some more on the poem.
