#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Tisbury Great Pond

A dark morning, and an early departure. Day trip. The kids arrive, get in our car. We are going to Martha’s Vineyard for the day to do some pre-wedding business. In Woods Hole we meet up with Will’s mother and all ferry over to the island. The sky is bright blue and there are a charming few inches of snow on the.beach and all the buildings. I am grateful. Very grateful because I am with my daughter and husband and future in-laws planning a joyful wedding and I am not in the middle of a terrible terrible tragedy. The day is cold, very cold and bright. And the world makes no sense. But there’s good sense in the car. A young couple who have been listening to each other’s needs and concerns as a matter of course over the last ten years are having a joyful experience creating wedding plans and being kind and listening to each other. I am grateful to see my brother and sister-in-law who live on the island, a brief visit. We get all of our business done. It’s a long day in the car and we have no time for hike, but it’s bitter out there. So much charm. The island in all of its pre-Christmas beauty. I stopped to gaze out my bedroom window over the field this morning in the early light before leaving. Silhouette of a coyote, standing in profile, his head turned right toward me and the house. We just looked at each other for a minute or two and then he strolled away. He had read my mind. I had woken up deciding Wave just might get his kitten.
