#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream
Tonight, after Christmas dinner––while Wave sleeps
A white blanketed scene, field and trees, evergreens and all. Very beautiful. And very early! Wave awake before the sun, of course. In our room at 5. Which turned out to be just right. We had to all wait until 7:30 when my son and Will and Franci promised to arrive. Wave was very very excited, of course. Frank and I worked in the kitchen. As it turned out, I did a bunch of prep for breakfast and dinner and Frank helped. We peeled potatoes and rutabaga, carrots and prepped green beans. I made homemade crepes and set aside with the scrambled eggs. The time flew by and then we had Wave’s Santa extravaganza and all of us gave and received presents. Then, sit down breakfast, except Wave, who ate nearer to new toys on the fireplace hearth. Then, spontaneously, everyone decided on going to play pickleball. I offered Wave to choose the pool with me, and that’s what he and I did. Gave his mom a break. We had a blast burning off energy. Then home to continue prepping the big Christmas dinner. Frank tended the roast and the salmon. I did all the veg and potatoes and homemade popovers and chocolate lava cake. Everything done to perfection! A beautiful, annual meal. And of course, Wave fell asleep just before we sat down! One of the very best Christmas days ever. All of us hanging around all day enjoying each other. Laughs, deep conversations, fun. Wave had plenty of grown ups to play with his new toys. Then, dessert in front of the tv after we took the family photo, missing Wave, but glad he’s getting what he needs upstairs. Tomorrow, I rest.
