#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

I woke up late in disruption. Monday, haven’t sent my poems to workshop. Cleaners due and the house not picked up. Making my coffee I realize, wait. It’s Sunday! I have a whole day before Monday! All day I felt the gift of an extra day. No commitments. Nothing to cook. First things first: go for my first x country ski of the season. Find the skis in the basement, dust off the poles, slip into my boots. Out the door. It’s powdery. Just enough of a layer of snow to enjoy. I go through the woods, by the icy river. The ice, I’m sure, isn’t strong enough to hold someone, but the width of the whole river is frozen. I see coyote tracks. I miss Charlie who always loved skiing with me. Wave comes out, snow bundled, to do a bit of sledding on our little hill. My daughter goes to work out. He and I sled and play indoors for quite a while. I make him a second smoothie and a very cheesy pizza as requested. Then my daughter is home and my time is my own. Poems. I revise a few all afternoon. Good progress. I found an older poem that I think will work in this manuscript. Maybe, in fact, it has been waiting for this manuscript to find its home. But I cut it quite a bit and feel it’s better now. It’s dark when I wake up from a nap. I have had the rest I needed and wanted. On my ski I listened to one of my favorite podcasts: This Jungian Life. I love this idea in the Santa and Krampus episode about giving and I know that I am living this idea in my own giving. I think it’s all in the heart of my poetry manuscript, this creed.
