We wake at 6:00. It will be sunny. I must look at my poem for workshop and send it. I’m late. I make a few tweaks and send it off. It’s Patriot’s day, our Massachusetts holiday. The Boston Marathon runners are lining up. But I am not running. I’m walking along the river. Greeting the heron. Greeting the maples reddening over the river. It’s a fresh and peaceful morning. I swim. I go to poetry workshop and my new poem is a strong one. I hope to write in the afternoon but when my daughters are hoping to hike I go with them. I don’t want to miss this chance for us to be outdoors on this sunny afternoon. No clouds. We walk the springy paths and talk. Trading turns. I’m so grateful for this break. I do get back to the long long poem for tomorrow. Writing all evening and my eyes are blurring. But these poems must come out. This one for tomorrow is rough. I don’t care. It’s a start. Frank and Perri and I have dinner together in a quiet house. Wave tomorrow.
