#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Birdbox by the river

Last night, after I blogged, I gave in. Wave couldn’t accept that I was saying no to dinosaurs. So I gave him seven minutes of fighting dinosaurs. This morning he woke before me, around 6:00 and came in and gave me a kiss to wake me up. It worked! He was home today. I went out and worked on the brush clearing. He joined me for a while but didn’t like that everything was so wet from last night’s rain. I stayed out for a long time. And the weather improved. I found a sad thing under some pines in the grove: a cache of duck eggs emptied by a predator that cleaned them out. Mallard eggs, I’m sure. At noon I went in to write. Try and get a poem. But Frank was taking Wave and his mom out in the boat, so I made a quick picnic for lunch and joined them. Couldn’t resist this time in the hazy sunshine with all of them. We saw a water snack and the heron. In the afternoon I got a first draft of an okay poem. I know it needs something I have not yet found. I also revised an old poem that I love but I am still not sure it’s working. Then, pickle tonight with friends, a lovely dinner relaxing outdoors by the un-bubbled pool with dear friends. I keep thinking about those empty eggs. The young mallards that won’t be born.
