#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Cinnamon Fern & Rhododendron

Soon enough, the storm. First thing, Frank asks as I wake, Have you seen my ear buds? No, I say, smiling to myself that this is the first question. I see him fussing with his phone. Have you looked for them? Yes. For the last hour, he has. Are you ordering new ones already???!!! Yes, he is. I kind of can’t believe it, but again, I can. This is a fundamental difference between us: he is urgent. I am patient. I would look for mine for a few days before ordering. But he cannot wait. I want him to wait. I encourage him to wait. And then I accept that he cannot wait. And he would be the first one to tell me to order new ones if I misplaced my own. Since the beginning of our marriage, this dance of opposites. In a few minutes I am at peace with the fact that he is no longer looking for them. They are on there way. The new ones. I gently tease him all morning. Have they arrived yet????? We are good natured about it, after all these years. When they do arrive, in a package on the step I am the first to spot them. I mock rush them into his office, waving the package breathlessly. They’re here! They’re here! Late in the day I ask them if he’s happy about his head phones. No, in fact. They are a newer version and require a newer charging cord and they’re a different shape in his ears. So, guess who is actually getting the new head phones? He wants me to trade mine for his new ones. Happily, I agreed. I don’t care at all, and he does. He cares very much. I ran my three wonderful groups today. Then, a quick dinner and treated myself to another hour outdoors dragging dead trees and breaking dead branches. So happy. Tomorrow, the storm.
