Up early to meet my daughter and her boyfriend for breakfast at the French Bakery in Mystic,. Sift. It was wet, cloudy, cool. Misty. Sift is amazing, the assortment of pastries. I kept it simple with fruit and a croissant, but it was fun to see the extravagantly designed pastries. We drove, after breakfast, once again to see the gigantic rhododendron, and I decided to walk back. Had a lovely hour walk in the cemetery and on the street. No rush, no hurry. Frank off to play tennis. I tried to work on a poem and it didn’t come and I realized the rainy day was making me need a nap desperately. Which was terrific. Then lunch with Frank—a slice at the famed Mystic Pizza. All day remembering, fondly, those exciting feelings about my own wedding day. Which was also rainy! And this wedding did have to be moved indoors, but that didn’t diminish the beauty of the bride, the happiness of the family and friends, the pure joy of a thoughtful, creative ceremony. Such a generous wedding, lovely people, a lovely marriage begun. A lasting one. And I feel honored to have been part of it.
