#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream
Mason Island, Mystic, CT, morning
Sun! Cool but sun and blue sky in Mystic! Frank and I went for a scenic drive before the post-wedding brunch. I tried working on my poem for awhile before getting out of bed. Ugh. Nothing. But the brunch was delicious and cheerful and lots of goodbyes and a happy bride and groom. A quick drive home to a sunny yard. And no rooster. Yes, the Fudgy chapter is over. My son found him an excellent home in Lancaster with his new tribe. And all reports, including this video, suggest he is happy to be among his fellow feathered friends. And safe from the neighbor’s dog for good. There is some sadness here and missing him. But also relief and a sense of the rightness of this decision. I worked a long time in the afternoon on brush clearing by the river which was sparkling in the sun. Boats going by. A lovely breeze. Then, I went in to the slog of a poem that didn’t want to easily come. Almost gave up on it a few times. Finally found a way in. Not happy with it, but kept going. It’s dark out now. We had a family dinner. Except Wave who comes home tomorrow. Can’t wait to see him. Back up to work on the poem. Got it into a decent enough draft that I can take it to workshop in the morning. Sigh. Grateful. Will tweak in the morning. Good night Fudgy. Thanks for being such a nice rooster in our yard for so many months! We will miss your crowing!
