#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream
Wild Iris in the Brook
I woke early to go for a swim. Worked a bit on a poem. Made a pancake and egg for Wave in case he woke up while I was gone, so his mother could sleep in. Instead, he got up and ate and then I scratched the swim reservation. We decided to go turtle hunting. It was wet in the yard but a little sunny and very nice. We walked all around the usual places, to the river, the woods, the brook, the wetlands, the garden, but didn’t spot any layers out there today. Still, it was a very pleasant walk and then he swam with me while I did some laps. A busy day. Frank found someone to come by and work magic on his tractor, so that made his day when it roared alive again. Meanwhile, hosting a party for my Charles River writers tonight, I needed to food shop. Turned out Wave and his mother wanted to go with me. The market was crazy busy, like impossible to get your cart down an aisle, any aisle and Wave kept talking to me, well, to Mikey & Squirt and I couldn’t focus on doing their voices while also dodging shoppers and filling our own two carts. Yikes! But we made it out in the end with everything we needed and more. Then Wave’s mom offered him a treat for unloading the groceries with her and this was successful. When I planned my evening gathering I didn’t know my son and daughter had planned a gathering as well––a married friend of my son’s with two daughters Wave’s age. So, let’s just say the house was completely used by many today. One party cleaned up for the next one to begin! My writers and their partners came and it was our end of the year gathering and readings and it was so fun. Dinner and then the readings. I love having the writers get to read what they’ve been working on in front of family and friends. It was a total success in every way. I got a gift from my wonderful friend who reads my blog. Two matching dinosaur headlamps for me wand Wave to wear at night! And they roar! I can’t wait to show him and use them. But he arrived home with his mother sound asleep and I only saw him being carried up the stairs. This is the season of the wild blue flag iris in bloom in the wetlands. Wave was on my back as I tromped thorugh the mud to get this picture of them.
