#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

My bedroom doors are open to the yard tonight. I am working on a poem, a new one. Still at the note taking stage. And I hear voices of children, loud, from the driveway, the long driveway that runs from our house, past our middle neighbor’s house to our other neighbor'‘s house, the one near the street. I have been wondering when Wave and my daughter, at a play date, will return home. And it’s dusk and the air is warm and fresh. What are the voices saying? Bye? Bye! One of the voices is Wave’s, very loud. And there hie is, coming up our driveway in his mother’s arms. And the other voice is Gabe’s, two houses down, coming from his porch. They are calling goodbye to each, these boys, after their play date and dinner. All the way home, calling across yards, loud as they can make their voices. They don’t want the day, their fun, their friendship, to end. Summer nights of childhood. I yell to him from my balcony - hello. For some reason, he tosses his sandals into the bushes, climbs the step, climbs the spiral staircase up to my balcony. They are still calling to each other. Bye! Bye! And he is in through the door of my room, and a last time. He has been at gymnastics camp all day and his energy has not yet run all the way down. I try to fish his sandals out of the bushes, for tomorrow, but I only find one. Today, I have woken early, finished a new poem, sent it off. I know it needs work, but it’s well received, and the comments are helpful. I feel as if I have my writing energy back after a couple of days of fuzzy head. I had a writing client, and then off to buy plants. I found three hydrangeas, but could not find any white ones to match the ones I have put in. I got them anyway. They’ll be fine. And I got juniper, ground cover, but not enough. I must return tomorrow or the next day for another batch. I was so eager to get outdoors. I picked kale and made my kale dish that my daughter and I have been eating every day—she loves it, and so do I. They were out, and so I kept it simple and went to the yard. Weeding today. Raking, Planting. Watering. No humidity. Plenty of joy.
