#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

at the river, evening

Frank goes so early I do not wake. I snooze the alarm, even though I haven’t yet sent my poem for workshop. Still, I get up by 6:30. It’s fresh and cool, humidity gone. House quiet. Peeking into the dining room as I get my coffee, I see that the little crumbs of glass can be found in corners. Glass crumbs will be around for awhile. I have been putting little cuttings of hydrangea in juice glasses on the mantle in the dining room. I renew them with fresh cuttings from various blooming hydrangeas in the yard. So many varieties. Not all have bloomed yet. I get sky blue and beige ones and lilac too, to sweeten the room. And it’s inviting to be on the grass. I also get my poem sent off with a few tweaks. Wave is up and excited, a little anxious, of course, but mostly excited about his week at gymnastics camp. Eggs and we prepare his lunch. He and Perri and I look at the website and pictures and see a bit of what’s ahead. Then they are out the door and so am I. Wave easily wins our race to the car this morning. I will take it easy today. My body is saying: rest. I do an hour of weeding in the new garden space where I have cleared the bramble and planted hydrangea. This feels just right. It’s not too hot at all. Wave is home in the late afternoon, happy and very tired. We have “casual” dinner, and right after eating he is fast asleep. As I will be too, moments from now.
