Farm Pond Abstract
My daughter Franci has been seeing bald eagles at Farm Pond in her late afternoon swims. She says there are three nesting there, at least three. And I had the great good fortune to see one today! Late afternoon, I drove to the pond, and Wave and his mother walked. Well, Wave rode on her back! Arrived and gleefully told me as I waded in the water, waiting for his arrival, he wasn’t tired at all! That’s when I saw the eagle dip from a tree on the edge of pond and rise again and soar away, its white head glinting in sun. After Franci arrived we saw the eagle soaring again on the other side of the pond. The pond was crowded in the afternoon with children and parents swimming and playing and the swim team practicing. In the morning, when I swam before poetry, I was virtually alone out in the middle of the glass pond. No wind. Very warm. I had a great swim. Frank left before I woke. My poem was well received and I got good comments in workshop. Woke early and worked on the one that is challenging me and I thought I made some progress. We’ll see. I’ll revisit it tomorrow. I bought another batch of juniper for ground cover and a few more hydrangea to finish the project. It was hot mid-day, but I placed them out and found I had just enough. Too hot to plant them all—there are 25, and tomorrow will be hotter, but early, perhaps, I will try and get them in the ground. So nice to have Wave home. He asked for breakfast: dipping egg and blueberry pancake. Orange juice. And then, when I came back from my swim, he wanted the whole breakfast again. And so it was served a second time.
