#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream
Exquisite family time. Frank and I awake early, slipped out, left daughter sleeping. To Mocha Motts for morning coffee, 6:00 a.m. Then he went off to his meeting and I went for a very long walk around Oak Bluffs, past all the gardens and gingerbread houses, flowers in bloom and ocean views. Feeling very grateful. Then I met up with Frank, we woke our daughter, went to Edgartown for coffee and lunch items. Waiting for the ferry that would bring my daughter and Wave. And as we waited in Oak Bluffs at the landing I felt, this is being a grandmother. This feeling of excitement, unmatched. To know he will get off the boat soon and be with us again. And then they are there! And he is overtired and not happy! And isn’t that the way it is with children? Of course, so we walked to the car and found some stories that cheered him right up. We pretended the gingerbread houses that Oak Bluffs is famous for were really made of gingerbread and candy and that a witch lived inside them, but I said I’d grab the candy anyway and push the witch into the fireplace. . . and then all day we had some good chats about stealing gingerbread and candy from the gingerbread houses. We had the pool, we had the ocean, we had oysters and lobster rolls and Back Door Donuts and fireworks! What a wonderful 4th of July! And of course he feel asleep on the ride from Edgartown to Oak Bluffs. Frank carried him in and he didn’t wake up. Sleeping hard, and he needs it. I walked 12 miles today. I need some too.
