#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream
Fish under dock, Oak Bluffs
Somehow, I didn’t hear the alarm and woke up an hour later than planned. So it was a bit of a mad dash getting out of the house to get to our ferry on time. But we did it. And so began a day of glitches, all pleasant enough and good to laugh about. Just me and Frank in the car to Falmouth. My youngest needed to follow in her own car to meet us at the ferry and leave her car. But she was far enough behind us that she had to get the next ferry. No big deal. It was foggy in Falmouth and so pleasant to be back in the ocean air. Nice to get the one-on-one time with Frank as we’ve both been busy since our return. The sun was out and it grew hot as we landed in Oak Bluffs. Soon met my daughter off her ferry. Lots of people and traffic and sunshine. Did I mention sunshine? And no reports of impending rain for the holiday weekend! We went to Franci’s favorite breakfast/lunch place in Edgartown, Rosewater, and said hello to my niece who works there. Frank used the restroom, and Franci and I got an SOS from him while waiting outside the store. He was locked in the bathroom! So we put down all our purchases and ran in to help him. He asked for a butter knife to unlock it somehow from the inside. Franci passed him a straw, and a plastic knife, and then we got my niece who got the manager who came with a toolbox. Once again, Frank asked for a bread knife. The guy tried to open it from the outside for fifteen minutes to know avail. Then he said, did you say a bread knife? And went and got one. Passed it to Frank under the door and Frank freed himself, of course, within a minute. Ta da! And so we went laughing off to Chappie Ferry. Waited in line for the ferry for an hour in the hot sun. Then crossed, and cheerfully stopped to take the air out of the tires which has to be done to drive onto the sand. And then Frank couldn’t get the caps off the tires to let out the air. He had put metal caps on to replace the plastic and they were all stuck on so tight he couldn’t budge them. So, no driving onto the beach. We walked on and took a quick dip then realized we had to get to the tire store by 3:30 in Vineyard Haven or we’d not be able to take Wave out to the beach on Chappie for the whole weekend. So, we drove off Chappie on the ferry and rushed to VH and the tire store. Still laughing. It was that kind of day. We got the tires fixed. Time to check into our condo and meet my brother and sister-in-law for casual dinner, and then go to a play at the Vineyard Playhouse. And all that went wonderfully and we had a great time seeing them and relaxing. The play was good but I was too sleepy to enjoy it. Tomorrow, Wave!
