#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Autumn Bell Collage

Woke comfortably late, no hurrying. And the impulse to make a collage. I got lost in the making in a very happy way. No stress. Just the next impulse. I used photos from the last couple of days I had been looking forward to using in a collage. I wanted a collage to express the autumnal equinox that happens tomorrow. This official shifting of the light and the season. Although wow, what a day outdoors. What a day. I worked in the garden for four hours mid-day. Happily, happily weeding, raking, weeding, planting. I finally transplanted a magnolia shrub that has needed a move for a long time. How satisfying to finally dig it up and know exactly where it needed to go. I will hope for it. My son came by the garden and visited. Didn’t mind that I was trimming and weeding. Thought of my dad. His garden was a best place to talk to him. Didn’t matter that he was digging or watering or weeding. He gave entirely his attention. It was great conversation. And a sensory delight. While he and I were visiting Frank spotted, getting out of his car, a massive wasps nest in a branch of the tree above him. I got a great picture. So, after the splendid time outdoors, I worked on my newest poem. I like it. I think it’s a solid draft. I’m surprised I got it to work. Then, out to the tennis court in progress in the wonderful late afternoon sun to play pickle with Franci and Will. They beat us three games to two. Indoors for dinner with them and Perri and we had such a lovely time. Talked politics throughout the meal, and we had truly had a thoughtful exchange! There was real listening and arguments were presented smartly and respectfully and challenged in the same way. Naturally, we had to gravitate to ice cream. A treat we all very much deserved. Welcome autumn. Welcome.
