#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

The winding down day, the last day of winter vacation with Wave who won’t return until Monday. We woke early and we played Minecraft. Not the video game. But the game where he has all the power and I have to dig ditches because I don’t have any. I don’t know this world. I just have to follow his lead. It makes him happy as I try to play along. I had a good walk in the cold. The very cold. A slate gray sky, lots of ice and sticks. I went by the tent to check on it, knocked some snow off and saw that my son had tied the chime I gave him for Christmas to the entrance of the tent. Sweet. I worked on phone calls, sent my Aim for Astonishing email, including my most recent collage, made last night. My New Year’s collage, inspired by an E.E. Cummings poem, “may my heart always be open to little.” I got lost in this wonderful process last night, happily so, using a variety of images I’ve taken over the years. The Butler was on a Christmas card I received, and is art by Claud Lovat Fraser. The LOVE image I took on the sculpture in a park in Philadelphia. The banana leaves are from a trip to Quadalupe, and the sea bird from Longboat Key. The candles are on a hand-drawn birthday card I received from a girl in India, part of a non-profit I make a donation to. The maple wings from trees here in spring. It makes me feel very happy, very loved, very loving. Had Christmas tea with my dear friend and exchanged gifts. Then off to pickle where we had lots of laughs and fun. All of us played well. Now, to bed. Writing in the a.m. awaits me.
