#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

October River

A gorgeous morning of October and Wave and I are up early and out for the bus. Smooth exit. Cheerful kid. Missing his mom but being brave. I take my six mile walk, a new one. Following my instincts I find a new route for my circle walk that keeps me almost entirely off the roadway even as I cross two ways over the Charles on two different bridges. My day is less busy with appointments, but I have plenty to do. I am helping to launch the Women Writers Collective and building the infrastructure, including the website, and I was able to solve a challenge with the website today, sending a first email and it went smoothly. Had to run some errands and have tea with my dear friend before meeting his bus. Lovely to relax and catch up with my friend outdoors on her porch in a nice breeze with the leaves falling. Watching two boys after school, two six-year olds, is something I haven’t done in a few decades. That part was a bit taxing, but there were some nice moments, like giving them a snack. But it was a lot. Then, when it was just Wave and me again things calmed down and once again I gave him a choice for dinner, and he chose both, chicken cutlet and nachos and I even got some steamed broccoli in him. Then, the real fun of the day began when I took him ghosting. Ghosting is when you make up some candy treat bags for friends. He even wrote “booo!” on each of the bags. Then, once it’s dark, grab the flashlight and the treat bags and park at the end of the friend’s driveway. Then sneak up the driveway to the front door, leave the treat, ring the bell, and run! We did this at two houses of friends, and he was very happy. There was a lovely moon and it was just the excitement of dark and tricking that a kid likes. Then we went to Franci and Will’s house but sadly they weren’t home, so we left the treat but didn’t get to jump out and scare them and get a hug. There was some sadness, talking long distance to his mom on the way home. But I did get him into the shower, as he promised, and got his hair washed. His last words before sleep. “I miss Mama.” Oh dear.
