#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

Birthday Afternoon

I woke to my alarm, just before six, so I could draft a poem for Monday morning workshop. The house was quiet. The poem started yesterday, driving home from Concord, a line came into my head and I wrote it down, and I did get the poem this morning, a draft to bring that I felt good enough about. Frank called me early as he wasn’t home and we had a lovely phone connection, and not the first of the day, we got to speak a few times and I also received a delivery from Winston Flowers on my doorstep in his absence: a beautiful dish of succulents. So glad to have them, and the delivery from Winston Flowers is always so nicely elegant. All day sweet calls and texts from family and friends, and Tonya and I walked and talked and talked in the pretty woods and then my poem was well received and then I took Tonya to the airport and even got another walk, my very own birthday walk to Farm Pond in the late afternoon so I could be on the beach and dive into the cold fresh water, on the verge of very cold, almost numbing and quite refreshing and I loved it. The sun was on the trees, the trees were coloring the water, there as silence and peace and beauty and I was grateful for my life and my birthday. And I took this picture and was glad for it. And the kids came and I played pickle with Franci in Will under the tennis lights and it was mild and fun and I played well and then dinner with all but my son, and Wave was there being adorable and I got all my appreciations and cake and then went to my poetry with friends and listened to poems and I’m very tired. That Hunter’s moon kept me awake much of the night!
