#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

In the field on skis

“Peace is not the absence of conflict but the presence of creative alternatives for responding to conflict -- alternatives to passive or aggressive responses, alternatives to violence.”
― Dorothy Thompson

Just the exact amount of new snow predicted, freshening the trail. Three inches. Probably I should have ventured out when I first got up to get the A+ conditions. It warmed and was slightly, just very slightly, less fast than it could have been. But I waited a good two or three hours, determined to make progress on finalizing my manuscript today. And I did make excellent progress. The house quiet. I worked in my group room without disturbance. Have finished revisions of poems I have been working on. Moving into finalizing a draft of ordering the entire sixty-four poems, and deciding which might not belong, if any. I have a strong manuscript title, I have good titles for all poems. Tomorrow I will accomplish a draft of the order. Next week I’ll workshop the latest revisions. I put it away feeling strong and went and made dinner. Funny how this works. The doubts creep in as I steam the corn, saute the mushrooms, boil the pasta. So, I notice those thoughts and notice how predictable they are. I have a solid diagram of the family history. It’s all there but needs a better design which I can do. Frank home from tennis for dinner after winning. We watch some of the Olympics. Maybe Wave can come home a little early in advance of the storm that’s coming. A blizzard heading our way late Sunday night. Guess I’ll be skiing well into March. And shoveling too.
