All day with Frank, for his birthday! A friend face-timed me by accident before 6 a.m. Frank was already up, so I was happy to be awake and have coffee with him. We sat on the sun porch together in the quiet house. He went to his meeting and I went to my computer. Submitted poems before going to the yard. I bought Frank planters and flowers for his tennis court and I wanted to get them planted and set up for him. Sun was hot already at 8 a.m. Then I swam, and he came home and we drove to Newport, Rhode Island for the tennis, an annual July event. It was sunny and hot and we had the top down. Newport is lovely in the sunshine of summer. We watched some tennis and then got restless in the heat, even though we were under a cover. No wind at all, and high humidity. We were just happy to be having a day out together. So we left the tennis for a swim! Ocean Drive goes along the coast and we always stop in a certain rocky spot where we park in the side of the road and take a dip. Quite cold and incredibly refreshing! We took our time driving home and had a small birthday dinner with a friend and our daughter and a long time to chat and talk about next year’s travel plans. Then we drove out at sunset for ice cream. The perfect quiet birthday. So relaxing and so much time for me and Frank to connect in deep and light conversation, both.
