Spotted the first tiny turtle hatchling this morning on my walk up the driveway. A baby snapper whose carapace was the same color and texture of the asphalt! It’s my brother’s birthday, so I texted him right away this morning. And worked on finishing a residency application due tonight. Agh, applications for writing residencies are not easy to write. I haven’t written more than one, but I managed to get my sample together and wrote my essays and sent it off by end of day. A lovely walk and time later at the pond with Wave as the summer days wind down fast to kindergarten. We swam and swam. I will miss these unscheduled afternoon swims with him! The countdown is on: two more days off. Tonight he came up the spiral staircase to my bedroom from the deck and surprised me with a magic trick involving the removal of his thumb, then putting it back on. He’s dying to reveal to me how he did it, of course.
