#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream
I am woken at 6:00 by Perri and Wave. It’s my morning to get him off to school as she needs to go somewhere. He’s easy. Happy with a smoothie and some cereal. Cheerfully we set off down the driveway. I love to see how he socializes with the neighbor kids at the bus stop. I get to see his personality in a new light. His charm and his sense of humor. I decide to bike to the post office to mail a letter that has to be sent to France. It’s sunny and warm. There’s traffic and I try to ignore it. After mailing the letter, a thank you card Franci stamped with regular stamps instead of airmail, I ride a few more miles to Farm Pond. It’s a nice morning for a swim. The water is calm and fairly warm. I spot another swimmer across the pond, otherwise it’s quiet. Then I ride my bike home. The rest of the day is busy, meetings and such. And the kind treat I find after I get off an appointment on Zoom of fresh sunflowers. My friend Deb is so good at dropping by to drop off a cheerful treat just when I need it most. She knows I’ve been sad about the loss of my aunt. I got more time with Wave after school, he had to run an errand with me to CVS to get pictures for a passport. I think it’s quite weird that you’re not allowed to smile on a passport photo! He got some treats too, and we got some for the neighbors too. I enjoyed feeding Wave and Perri and then Wave and I played outside in the yard with Perri’s oversized birthing ball and it was so hot! It’s getting dark early these days. Almost autumn. I found myself wondering today about whether school children in US history class will someday be surprised to learn that President Trump threatened to demolish an arts institution named in honor of an assassinated president, John F. Kennedy, because he wasn’t allowed to name the center after himself instead. Will this be taught? I hope so. I hope some day this US history will be taught and that future American school children will be astonished to know how bad the Trump presidency actually was, in all its dirty deeds.
