Up early and wrote my newsletter, sent it with the above picture. Later on Instagram, my nephew Carson’s fiance asked me if this was a picture of Carson or my son Landon. That surprised and kind of delighted me. I’m not going to say exactly who it is, but it’s not Carson or Landon. Except now I see how it could be. Because a picture of childhood joy and playfulness. So I love it and it makes me very happy to think about this special ability of children to be playful and unselfconsciously joyful. Then Franci came over, we went out for coffee and then on a long walk in the woods. We got some good conversation time and covered a lot. Loved having this intimate time with her. In the afternoon I needed a bit more exercise and went for a long bike ride across town and rode past my own childhood home, and also past my children’s childhood home, and it was autumnal and cool and fresh and what I noticed is that the hills seemed flatter. Easier to climb. That triathlon bike ride is killer hilly. I felt great on the bike today. Nice evening with Frank watching the Mary Oliver documentary in the quiet house. And for the first time in months, I put the fireplace on. It’s coming. It’s coming.
