#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

“But too much rain
can translate anything to unspeakable.”
― Marianne Boruch, Cadaver, Speak

She’s off to yoga early and I am in charge of getting him to the bus. Easy peasy. Three dipping eggs and we’re out the door. No rain! Then I keep walking because I have a doctor appointment in Medfield to have a rash looked at. Wondering if it’s tick-born. I walk there and I walk home and by the end of the day I have walked eleven miles. That included some gardening. I was aching to be in the yard in the late afternoon. When the sun shone for a bit today I was so happy. I cut down my milkweed to compost it and clean up the garden a bit. Then Wave came out and he hit tennis balls with the ball machine and I counted how many times he got his racket on the ball. Seventy times. Franci face-timed from Hawaii to tell Wave about visiting the volcano and show him the hardened lava she was crossing on the way to the beach. I could have worked on a poem today but I didn’t. Such a relief to be moving into warmer, dryer weather, it really is curving up my mood. I don’t have any lyme symptoms, just the weird rash and I’ll get some results soon. Meanwhile, I’m loving walking, long walks, as I always do in fall. Tonight I listened on Zoom to the 2026 Jackson Poetry Prize Reading featuring prize-winner Marianne Boruch interviewed by Pádraig Ó Tuama and it was lovely and funny and smart.
