#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

A wonderfully deep sleep. Awake to rain and bleak daylight. Rain. And I’m behind. Haven’t sent my poems in. I get them out and get Wave his breakfast. I try to make a reservation to swim but there isn’t one. So I will walk in the rain. Why not? Wave goes and I go. A long walk by the river and into the woods. It’s quite wet. I try not to mind. It deepens the colors. The wetlands are littered with colorful leaves. It’s very quiet. I meet the birds in the wetlands still feasting on berries. Workshop is helpful. My mood a little creeky in this rain. And maybe I’m tired from a busy weekend. I had to go to the bank and it’s a 20 minute drive. Then, the supermarket for a decent fill the cabinets and fridge shop. There was heavy rain. And so little light, even mid-day. The light was in the wet leaves, on branches hanging low over the road. The gold leaves closing in, narrowing the road, bent from their drenching. It was a lovely light. But at 2:30, as I was heading home, I thought, I’ll need to make dinner when I get home. Dinner! Dinner was hours away and it felt like night. A wet night. I hoped I’d get back to my desk but the unpacking of groceries, the chore of cleaning out fridge, doing dishes. . . it was time to make the meatballs before I got to my desk. And I was happy to make them and feed the family. Wave came into the kitchen and we lightly teased each other in the ways that we play. And it feels like a holiday as he has the day off tomorrow. In honor of the veterans. In the wetlands, a happy show.
