#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

April Brook

Such brightness this morning. And such a good night’s sleep. How can April be almost over? We are going out in splendor. I see the heron every morning. The maple wings are on the trees and in the mud. I have a good swim. Out the window, while doing laps, the blazing light of the red maple tree shines and inspires me. I have my poetry workshop and share my poem new from the weekend. Excellent feedback. I have good, strong drafts and lots of revision to do. I appreciate the intimacy, especially, of this Tuesday morning workshop and the high level of craft. Another poetry filled day. I read two poems at a Poetry Month reading sponsored by Alzheimers.org. Two from an anthology they are published in. The whole hour poets read poems about caring for loved ones with dementia. It’s quite moving. Then I jump in my car and go to Kingsbury Club, meet my daughter and take Wave swimming. It’s warm enough to play at Farm Pond, but he wants to play in the warm indoor pool so we can stay in a long time in the deep end. We play sticky bug––I throw him, he swims back, I throw him again. His favorite deep water game now that he can swim in the deep water on his own. He learns to dive in the deep end to the bottom for the diving rings. Then it’s home for dinner, we’re both starving, and I make his favorite chicken parmesan. We have a quiet night with tv and books, Wave, my daughter and me. And the door open, a cool breeze. Temperature drops again tomorrow. I must begin a new poem for next week, and then some revision.
