#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

A wonderful, recovery night’s sleep in our Athens Hotel. Early and happy to breakfast to meet the walkers of us. Coffee and out. We walked back to the National Garden, saw some new things, had great chats. Sunday morning in Athens. Warm, sunny, busy with families. Stopped in a centuries old chapel to hear some chanting. At the garden we sat and meditated for 10 minutes. I dropped in. Here we are in Greece! Time today to have more than one walk before leaving Athens, packing, getting in a van to the airport for our quick flight to Rhodes, the island were we were to meet our boat. The Captain warned us, bad weather. We would stay in the castle for dinner and leave the port in the morning. So I pictured a storm, and holing up in an ancient Greek castle overnight! Instead, we arrived to a sunny and hot and lovely turquoise ocean and a perfect boat on a perfect day. Snacks and shown to our cabins. It was windy. That's all. Surf was up. All quite manageable. We walked through the old castle and markets in a leisurely walk to dinner, catching the pink sky going down over the turquoise. An exquisite dinner of fresh fish by the rolling surf. Celebrating our dear friends’ wedding anniversary with all good cheer. And then a long walk home through the bustling port streets and the castle and past the countless kiosks and bars and restaurants. 11:00 p.m. and wide open, bustling with families and partiers of all ages. The most delicious breeze. Frank bought me an anniversary. An impulse as we passed a shop and I spotted the leather jacket I have been looking for my whole life! So strange. Waking up to news of US bombing Iran and trying to process the enormity of that in the midst of this vacation in Greece. And the sense of worry and concern I feel for my Israeli friends. And all those who will be harmed and threatened by violence of war. All my pictures are on my cell phone which is charging, so I will have to pose all but the sleeping duck from the National Garden tomorrow. Goodnight Greece.
