#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream
A little person climbed in bed beside me in the middle of the night and gave me a full body hug. This was a surprise. His mother had to leave the house early, well before he would be awake, and I would drive him to school. At 3:30 a.m. he thought she was already gone, and she did leave soon after. I never really got back to sleep, but he did. It was just him and me then when I woke him. And I wanted to wake him with happiness in case he was sad about his mom not being there. So I told him if he got up right away we could play fighting dinosaurs before breakfast. Well, this was just the right offer. Except I spontaneously altered the ritual. He was under the covers, so I pretended to be an archeologist with a team of Ph.d. researches digging for dinosaurs in the desert. So, I had to excavate the bones under the covers. Oh, he LOVED this! So, once I excavated the bones, he got to come alive as a dinosaur and chase the researches around––as Dominus Rex, a carnivore. And then, I finally offered him to try some human food called pancakes or eggs, and he picked eggs and we had breakfast, I made his lunch, and off to school we went, but then I was running out of gas, and I thought I could make it to Needham and drop him on time before getting gas, but then we only had two miles of gas left and we were still four miles from school! He liked this game too—figuring out if we could get to the gas station before running out, and then we only had one mile of gas left and I pulled in and filled her up, just in time. He was only one minute late to school and when I got him in a rush to the door I left him quickly with the teacher, and fortunately as I was walking away I turned back and there he was standing waiting to give me a hug goodbye. Duh. So I got my hug and kiss. I didn’t get my swim, but I ddi get some outdoor time before my three groups today. All of them quite satisfying. And my beach rose bush was in full bloom out the office window! And the peonies too and the rhododendrons. A lovely, hot day. And when my groups were done, I did a bunch of brush work by the river. The big guys with machines are coming tomorrow to clean up my massive 10 or so brush piles, and cut down a bunch of dead trees. I don’t know what they’ll say when they see my brush piles! I think they’ll be surprised by what I’ve done, as I am. I definitely want my swim tomorrow, though.
