#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

September Milkweed & Monarch Collage

All the milkweed pods are breaking open and spreading their seeds. Frank pointed to a monarch hovering about the butterfly bush this afternoon. We strolled to the river to sit and chat. It was calm and bright and hot. Wave woke up to play with the leftover party balloons for Will and Franci. He wanted to take them outside and I warned him he might lose them. He wasn’t ready to lose them and stayed indoors. I somehow scraped together a new poem before workshop. I was pleased that I actually created a workable draft in a short time and wasn’t afraid to send it off. I made Wave a pancake and an egg and he was hungry for both. He went off to school and I went off to work on clearing some brush. I didn’t have a lot of energy. And sometimes my energy grows back during the day, but not today. I had a long long nap. I did so much over the weekend and gave in to exhaustion. The monarchs move slow through the air of September. Happiness in my heart, and my body tired out. It grew humid. Wave came home and burst all but one of his balloons after school. That’s the fun when they start to deflate. Then, the last one, we took it outside and he let it go and we watched it climb, slow as the September monarch. He was free of all his balloons. And then I rallied as best I could and played fighting dinosaurs, and then took him into the warm yard and continued teaching him how to hit a ball with his bat and run the bases. He very much liked running the bases and learning it was like tag. He ran my legs off chasing him. Frank made crab cakes for casual dinner. He was tired too. Workshopped my poem again tonight with my friends and got helpful feedback. I will have to wake early and get another poem revision to bring to workshop.I always come through.
