#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

I wake with Frank at six for another wonderful day in our Casa. Coffee outside with the monkeys and birds and flowers. I have a mostly wide open day and start with a long walk. I sit on the beach for a bit and meditate facing the surf. My friend, G. has painted by bamboo walking sticks. The tide is low and the sand is hard packed and ideal for walking. I take a swim. I am enjoying lingering, no workshop to get home for by 9:00 a.m. I listen to poetry podcasts, Poetry Unbound, by Pádraig Ó Tuama, and love the most by Armen Davoudian Coming Out of the Shower. It’s just the perfect tone for the morning, this podcast. I get a call from my youngest and we get to chat for a bit. Then my other daughter calls, so I tell my youngest I’ll call her right back. Tell my other daughter I have to call her back. Call my youngest back, we continue. I’m torn! Miss them both and want to talk to both! Later I get a good chat with my older daughter. I worked on admin once I got home and then had one writing client which was truly magical, the work we did on her memoir. Then, off again to the beach for sunset after a ride on the quad with Frank. He went off for tennis. On Playa Guiones I was so happy to meet up with my sister-in-law, my niece, and my three nephews and my grand niece. Sunset swim and the joy of being with family and friends in such an amazing place.

I bought Wave a book, The Paper Crane, by Molly Bang and had it delivered. Fortunately, my daughter opened it before he got home because she has a copy and they have been reading it every night. He would have been disappointed. Now I’ll send something else to surprise him truly. Wave is five. So I feel particularly outraged about the detention of five year old Liam Ramos who was picked up in Minnesota by ICE and is being held in Texas. So, tonight I light my candle specifically in honor of Liam who deserves to be home and in school and free like every other five year old boy in the world.

For Liam Ramos, 5 years old, being held in a Texas detention center

Tonight I am lighting my candle specifically for the 5-year-old boy, Liam Ramos, from Minnesota, who is being held in a Texas detention center in Texas with his father.

Democratic lawmakers called Wednesday for the immediate release of Liam Conejo Ramos, a 5-year-old detained by federal agents in Minnesota, after visiting him and his father in an immigration holding facility. The New York Times
