As a lover of routine, I have let go of my routine this week to welcome and train Chippy. Frank skipped his meeting this morning so I could do a big food shopping at 7:00 a.m. and he could watch the puppy. I get my exercise taking Chippy in and out. It was pouring rain. No stars this morning. In the early afternoon I did get out for a real walk in the woods by myself. It was damp and muddy, of course. Finally the snow is really going away. I love the entrance into spring and the months of bare feet and outdoor showers and plants exploding in growth and swims in the pond. And a wedding to come. I managed to get a poem sent off to workshop and got some helpful feedback. A few tweaks left. A puppy is a good antidote to news of war. All the focus a new being requires. His soft soft fur when I rub his head as I walk for a bit with him in my arms. And also, I am very physically tired and fall down on the couch before dinner for a deep nap. I’m under a blanket and soon a little body, a boy, not a puppy, is working his way under the blanket beside me. Frank goes away tomorrow. Yikes! I feel Charlie’s spirit returning to this house. Chippy is his own spirit, yes, of course, and I welcome his unique being. But he is filling the Charlie hole with his chocolate charm.
