#NewThisDay Writing From My Photo Stream

There was peace at the river at first, when Chippie and I arrived early. I saw redwing blackbirds, a bluebird, an oriole too I think. It was sunny and bright. But the geese who have nested across the river were in a fighting mood. They honked the heck out of Chippie who was minding his on business climibng out on his log into the river. Intimidated, his ears flung back in fear he came trotting over to me and sat at my feet by the rock where I was standing at the river’s edge. Then some rival geese flew in and the fighting really started. Four geese fighting it out over territory. It got pretty fierce! I’ve never seen geese physically fight, but they really went at it! Frank came home and we headed in. I had a swim and then packed Chippie up for a day trip with our lunches. He was an angel in the car, all the way to Connecticut to meet my Aunt. Once we were inside, though, I realized what a mistake I’d made. He was leashed, but not very obedient! How many seniors with walkers was he going to take down???? Well, he harmed no one in the halls, and I made it to my aunt’s room and she met him. I needed her to have eyes on him. Selfish of me, I guess. But she’s such a dog lover. And Chippie just wouldn’t behave. He swiped, in play, at her arm, and of course drew blood. I had to get a bandaid and bacitracin for her, but this turned into a nurse and the head of nursing overseeing the small wound. My aunt didn’t mind, she was fine about it, and glad I came. So I took Chippie to his crate in the car and went back in and got a chance to tell my aunt how much I love her and why I love her so much, and she got teary, and I was glad I came, but I got word that I needed to see the Executive Director on my way out, and I knew Chippie had not made a good impression, and in fact, he was told he could not come back. Oh dear. And then he was an angel all the way home. I feel bad, but glad too. And I took him to the river when we got home. And then we had friends for pickle and dinner and the light was beautiful on all the blossoming trees.
